This acrylic paint brushed and airbrushed painting was inspired by a trip to Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway at the far western part of the state of Virginia. During our brief visit, we encountered a variety of bird and butterfly species that are native to this beautiful state. My wife and I are avid bird watchers and butterfly advocates. Our own home hosts a variety of plants and trees that attract enormous varieties of butterflies and birds, most of which are depicted in this painting. Not all of these creatures and plants would necessarily be seen at the same time of the year. They all have their own individual bloom cycles and migratory periods, yet some remain all year long. I have chosen all of my favorite native Virginian bird species that we have enjoyed watching through the years, as well as native Virginian flowers and plants. I have arranged them in a playful, eclectic fantasy image of my own and scaled them in preference to my own liking for their colors and textures. Through this painting, the viewer can enjoy the various plants and birds throughout the year and all in one place.
