A Journey into wonderland with kris and Ed to Cabo San Lucas started pretty strange. Here I sit in the Norfolk International airport waiting for her to come in from Pittsburgh from a funeral. What a depressing start to a wonderful fantasy that we have waited four years for! She should arrive around midnight and then at 4:00 AM in the morning we will have to get up (not that we will ever sleep) and come back to this same airport for our early morning flight to Mexico.

Wow! Slept a whole two hours last night and here we are again, at the airport. No waiting today. As soon as we got here we were up and running in a flash. The crowd at the gate was huge going through the scanners. One lady was in a hurry to wait behind me and I swear she was trying to crawl into my carry on she was sooooo close. When we got to the gate. It was mere minutes before we were on the plane and watched the ton of bags on the loading carts, unfortunately my board was under all those tons of bags. Yikes! We should be in Cabo this afternoon. Now if I can only find a plug for thiscomputer..
We have arrived! The blast of the desert heat hits you instantly as you get off the plane and witness all of the intense heat and desert vegetation, what survives amongst this harsh climate. After going through the red light/green light customs inspection we were bombarded by tons of rental car guys jockeying for position on getting us wheels and a deal of $100 off your rental car if you agree to a morning breakfast and tour of their specified resort. They are such good salesmen! They almost had us there, promising a free breakfast, dinner, and a tour on a glass bottom boat for just 70 minutes of our time to check out their time share resorts. We finally got our car and drove off to Cabo and witnessed huge mountains that were barren of vegetation except for the huge cactus and brush. Navigating the road system was a bit of a challenge, especially when we were going the wrong way on an entry ramp to the main road. Ooooopppssss...We finally made a U-turn and entered La Jolla De Los Cabos and wow! Palm trees everywhere, four pools, sauna, massage parlor, you name it, they have it. This is truly unlike any other adventure we have had. This is a far cry from the rain forest rough and tumble experiences we have been used to. When I got to the beach, the surf was going off way overhead in crystal blue water with very few surfers out. It kind of reminded me of Panama with perfect right hand points firing off endlessly. I had left my new hat and towel on the beach and having been to Mexico before I thought about that and wished I had not done so with out someone watching out for it. Sure enough, the hat was gone but at least the towel was there. Lesson learned. Welcome to Mexico.
As we relax here in the bar drinking margaritas at the waterfall pool the sound of the surf is so relaxing. I think we are going to like this place. Oh, by the way, we saw a silver limited edition

PT Cruiser on the way to the hotel. Pretty cool.
When you arrive at the hotel, they give you a wonderful assortment of information about the local area including places of interest you might want to enjoy. I found that really helpful, especially the directions to the supermarket because our accommodations include a full blown kitchen so get ready folks. I am gonna do some pretty wild cooking!

Early morning brought about a nice charge to the surf and it was around head high at Zippers with a pretty tight crowd. After the morning surf we had breakfast and the food here is awesome. Definitely five star. The juevos revueltos and juevos rancheros were superb with just the right amount of salsa.
We journeyed into the main town and saw lots of neat restaurants and stores. As usual, everyone here is into real estate and trying to offer you a free bottle of tequila, a blanket, a free boat ride on the glass bottom boat and a trip to lovers arch if you will just spend 70 minutes at their resort and hear their pitch. The pitch also includes a free breakfast and dinner, compliments of the salesperson. Very tempting...We stocked up the fridge at the local supermarket and got plenty of good stuff there.
The view of all of the surf zones from the cliff was awesome as we stood there sipping on ice cold coconuts and surveying the desert landscape. The two main colors here are red and blue, hence, the Costa Azul or Blue Coast. Very nice.
Looked into the massage at the day spa and it is only $55.00 for 60 minutes of pleasure. This old surf body sure could use some of that.back to the top
