I have hand painted with a multitude of red and white sable brushes. The water required at least fourteen coats of swirling aqua patterns to get the effect I wanted. At this phase, you can still see the hard edges of the wave textures that will be softened later with more layers of the aqua colors. I found that if I paint the textures in dark and do washes over them, they become somewhat muted and are easier to find and blend as I progress to the surface textures.
