In this phase, I have covered the canvas with clear contact paper which you can purchase at any Wall Mart store. I tried using my expensive Frisk Film (frisket masking paper), but it did not stick at all to the canvas texture. I also tried using Automask film that I use on motorcycles, cars, and helmets, but it too lacked enough adhesion to stay on the canvas.

It was important for me to isolate the lighthouse and the lower portion of the seascape to prevent overspray in those areas. I used 4 Paasche H single action airbrushes with a No. 1 fine tips to get graduated tones of pthalo blue, cobalt blue, pthalocyanine purple, pthalocyanine green, and titanium white. I created a holder for all the airbrushes to run off of one air hose by purchasing fittings at a local plumbing supplier. They make specific airbrush hose couplings but they cost a lot more.
